Canine Basic Handling provides Kennel Attendants and Animal Care Providers with scientifically sound theoretical knowledge and practical experience on safe interactions with dogs in a kennel environment. The theory portion of this course educates participants on how to; reduce stress, identify potentially anxious or volatile dogs, apply safety procedures for moving animals within the facility and appropriate scenarios for exercising the use of safety equipment. The practical component focuses on; rapport building, humane handling techniques, expanding leash skills, problem shooting stimuli overload and employing confidence building techniques, using a balanced training approach in accordance with the CCPDT Humane Hierarchy. During the practical, participants gain individual instruction from a Canine Foundations’ Behaviour Consultants, while operating within an active kennel environment.
