The Help Rover Program provides FREE one-one-one Basic to Advance Obedience Dog Training for all Georgian College Faculty, Staff, Students, Animal Shelters, Canine Rescues, Foster Parents and newly Adoptive Dog Parents.  Free private obedience training with a Canine Foundation Training Academy Students have been made available through the use of a virtual platform starting October 2020.  Canine Foundations Training Academy staff and Student Instructors firmly adhere to the principals of LIMA, implementing Least Intrusive, Minimally Averse techniques to achieve training and behaviour objectives with minimal risk of producing adverse side effects.

Private Virtual Training – Basic to Advance Obedience

Private Virtual Obedience Training sessions are designed to reduce distraction and provide the highest quality training within the comfort of your own home.

Each dog and owner/handler pair will receive one-on-one instruction from a Canine Foundations Academy Student Instructor, working directly under a Canine Foundations Behaviour Consultant and CCPDT Knowledge Assessed Certified Trainer.  Dog and handler pairs will receive a free customized 9-week training program, designed to address the individual training needs of each dog, and weekly private training session through a virtual platform, guiding them through the process of teaching basic to advanced obedience commands. To ensure that every dog and handler pair receives the best care possible, each Instructor Student has direct access to a Canine Foundations Behaviour Consultant and CCPDT Knowledge Assessed Certified Trainer for assistance in; program development, program implementation and problem shooting.

Commands taught during the training program include:

  • Name orientation
  • Bite inhibition (Gentle)
  • Sit
  • Wait (hold a position until released for less than 5 seconds)
  • Release
  • Down
  • Stand
  • Leave it (ignore the item)
  • Take it
  • Drop it
  • Recall (Here or Come)
  • Bed (to go to a location or dog bed)
  • Touch (targeting)
  • UpUp (to jump up into the car)
  • Off (to get off people or locations)
  • Stay (hold a position until released for more than 5 seconds)
  • Stop
  • Back up
  • Around
  • Loose Leash Manners basic (walk on a loose leash within 6 feet of the handler)
  • Crate or Kennel
  • Heel (walk on a loose leash within 1 foot of the handler)

  • Polite Door Greetings

The Canine Foundations Training Academy program at Georgian College presents the unique opportunity to provide Animal Shelters and Rescue Organizations with FREE basic to advance obedience training services while supporting our student's learning. Each student requires 6 hours per week of training a dog/human pair through virtual private sessions.  The benefit of taking part of this program is the ability to offer FREE basic to advanced obedience training from October 2021 to June 2022 to your staff, volunteers, foster parents and members of your community.  We welcome all Canine Rescue and Animal Shelters to join this mission and register their facility to receive a Student Instructor designated to assisting your community.
