As a pet, your dog may not have to learn the discipline of a service, police animal or a trick performer, but he/she does have to learn the basics, at least, to become a polite and safe member of your family. Pick and choose the commands that you want to teach.
Some of the many commands you can teach your dog include:
Each new client starts with a two-hour personality profiling assessment where we:
We also get you started on that program, give you an outline of how long and how many sessions will be required to achieve your goals, and email you your homework within two business days after your session, so you can print it out to keep as a reference.
Your dog’s personality profile assesses his/her intelligence level, problem-solving skills, drives, motivations, personality type, disposition and low thresholds (areas of low tolerance).
With this information, we are able to choose training techniques that have been specifically designed for your dog’s personality mix, which means quicker and more reliable results for you.
During the first two-hour session we also teach or re-teach commands to your dog that you need working for you in order to fulfill the homework. Depending on your dog’s profile, we can teach anywhere from three to six commands in your first session.
If part of your homework was to direct your dog to go to his/her bed and stay there while you cook dinner, we would break the complex instruction into individual commands and teach them in order, building upon success.
Our use of personality profiling prior to choosing training techniques allows most dogs to learn their basic-to-advanced commands within three sessions – starting at day one!

Canine Foundations was recommended to us by our vet to help with our beagles separation anxiety. It was severe enough that medication was also prescribed by our vet but that behaviour modification would be an integral part of making a difference. The first time Allison came to our home and did an extensive assessment of Rudy we were very impressed. Allison is very knowledgeable about dogs and their behaviour as well as being professional and approachable. Within 48 hours Allison had emailed us a detailed program to follow based on her observations and expertise. It was easy to follow, promoting valuable and fun interaction with Rudy and in a very short time we have seen noticeable results. No easy task as Rudy had been in our home for over 6 years, was 2 when we rescued him (history unknown) and recently developed escalating stress when being left alone. Allison was always available to answer questions or clarify anything should it be required. We have just finished our second in home visit and are thrilled that Allison was very pleased with the progress our wonderful dog has made as our we of course!
It has been a very enjoyable journey and we feel very fortunate to be working with Allison and making a difference in Rudy's life.
